What you’ll make
Valeria is a compact wallet with two flap designs to choose from. Inside, one side holds a zippered pocket for coins and small items, while the other provides folded card slots.
Extra space behind both interior sections can hold bills, receipts, photos, or other flat essentials. The finished wallet closes with a snap or similar closure.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Interface the exterior and interior pieces for structure.
- Make a lined zippered pocket with neat fabric zipper stops.
- Fold and press the card-slot panels into an even accordion.
- Sew and turn a shaped flap with clean curved edges.
- Layer the pockets, card holders, and flap on the lining base.
- Manage bulky areas and finish the turning opening.
Fabric and materials
Use a durable fabric with body outside, such as canvas, denim, or Panama cloth. The sample wallets use canvas for the exterior.
Choose thin poplin for the lining, especially for the folded card slots, where extra thickness can make sewing difficult. The project also uses interfacing, a nonmetal zipper, and a snap or similar closure.
Make it your own
Choose either included flap shape, or adjust the flap’s outline and size to suit your design. A magnetic closure can replace the snap.
If your machine struggles with the stacked card-slot layers, the class suggests replacing that section with simpler flat pockets.
Finished measurements
The completed wallet measures approximately 20 cm wide by 10 cm high.
