What you’ll make

Sew a decorative organizer that can hang on a wall or behind a door. Its three roomy pockets can hold sewing supplies, fabric scraps, or baby-care essentials.

A wooden rod supports the hanging cord, while a lower rod helps the organizer lie flat. Fabric appliqués and optional trim add colorful geometric detail.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Prepare fabric appliqués with fusible appliqué interfacing.
  • Secure appliqués with straight, zigzag, or decorative stitching.
  • Finish and position three patch pockets evenly.
  • Sew and turn the layered organizer body.
  • Create channels for the upper and lower supports.
  • Add cord and decorative fringe or lace.

Fabric and supplies

The sample uses plain natural canvas for the base and small fabric scraps for the appliqués. Reinforce thinner base or pocket fabric with interfacing.

You’ll also need fusible appliqué interfacing, cord, wooden rods, and bias tape. Fringe or lace can be added as decorative trim.

Make it your own

  • Create your own appliqué arrangement or use printed canvas and skip the appliqués.
  • Divide a pocket with a center seam to make two compartments.
  • Adjust the pocket spacing or organizer size for what you plan to store.
  • Add support rods behind the pockets if the organizer will hold heavier objects.

Pattern measurements

The PDF specifies a base measuring 75 cm high by 42 cm wide and three pockets measuring 18 cm high by 36 cm wide.

The class includes the sewing demonstration and a PDF with pattern measurements, materials, and a layout for the pocket and appliqué design.
