What you’ll make
Sew a large zippered baby toiletry bag with a roomy interior, elasticized pockets on both outer faces and a snap-fastened pacifier strap.
The waterproofed lining makes it useful for diapers, wipes, creams, a change of clothes or damp items. It can later hold cosmetics or other everyday supplies.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Interface the exterior and sew a lined zipper opening.
- Create elastic casings and gather the exterior pockets.
- Sew and turn a narrow pacifier strap.
- Install snaps on the strap.
- Join the outer bag and lining for turning.
- Form boxed corners and close the lining opening.
Fabric and waterproofing
The project uses exterior fabric, lining, medium-weight double-sided interfacing, elastic, a zipper and snaps.
The demonstrated lining has two coats of Odicoat. You can instead use an already waterproof fabric. Add lightweight interfacing if the pocket fabric needs more body.
Make it your own
Arrange the gathers across each elasticized pocket to suit your preferred look. Position the pacifier strap at a convenient height.
Close the turning opening with the machine or follow the invisible stitch tutorial for a hand-sewn finish.
Finished size
The finished toiletry bag measures approximately 30 cm wide by 22 cm high.
