We can be a little forgetful at home, and with 3 kids, keeping track of all their activities can get overwhelming. The solution? A weekly fabric organizer!

What you’ll make

Sew a weekly fabric organizer with seven day columns, movable activity tiles and a repositionable star for marking the current day. A chalkboard-fabric panel provides a reusable place for the month.

Lower pockets hold spare activities, chalk and an eraser. Two interfaced fabric loops with snaps let the organizer hang from a rod, cord or another practical support.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Create a name appliqué with double-sided fusible web.
  • Mark and sew an evenly divided seven-day layout.
  • Apply chalkboard fabric with a neat zigzag edge.
  • Build and divide an interfaced storage pocket.
  • Sew clear-vinyl activity sleeves and add Velcro backs.
  • Layer the front, batting and backing for a turned panel.
  • Make hanging straps and install manual snaps.

Fabric and materials

The organizer combines exterior and backing fabrics with batting. It also uses chalkboard fabric, clear sewable vinyl, Velcro, snaps, binding or narrow trim, fusible interfacing and fusible web.

Water-soluble glue can hold small strips and pieces without extra pinholes. The class also shows how a walking foot helps feed the thick final layers.

Make it your own

Use pictures for younger children or written activity names for older users. Sew only three sides of each clear sleeve if you want to replace its paper insert later.

Personalize the name, lettering, colors and pocket divisions. Fasten the hanging loops around a decorative rod or another support that suits the room.

Verified dimensions

The PDF specifies a 49 × 52 cm base, a 6 × 52 cm weekday strip, an 11 × 52 cm pocket section and two 23 × 7 cm pieces for the hanging straps.

The class covers every organizer component, while the downloadable PDF supplies the layout, labels and principal measurements.
