What you’ll make

Sew the Zamora, a full-length jumpsuit with a gathered round neckline, lined sleeveless bodice, and V-shaped back opening with a tie.

The wide-leg pants have shaped darts, pockets, and an elastic waist. The jumpsuit has no zipper, and the demonstrated outfit is completed with a separate gathered sash and button fastening.

What you’ll learn in these classes

  • Stabilize curved and bias-cut edges.
  • Form the pants pockets and leg darts.
  • Gather the front neckline evenly.
  • Cleanly finish the lined armholes and V-back.
  • Add the back tie and join bodice to pants.
  • Apply elastic evenly around the waist.
  • Sew a gathered sash with buttonholes and buttons.

Fabric and drape

Choose a lightweight fabric with fluid drape, such as crepe or viscose. The demonstrated lightweight fabric is used for both the outer bodice and its lining.

For a heavier outer fabric, choose a lighter satin or viscose lining. The class also covers stay tape or staystitching to keep curved and bias edges from stretching out.

Make it your own

Replace the fabric back tie with satin ribbon, decorative cord, or trim, or omit it. Wear the jumpsuit without the gathered sash or style it with another belt.

Use two buttons on the sash, or add a second pair for alternate fastening positions. Adjust their placement for a closer or looser fit.

The pants portion can also be adapted into standalone wide-leg pants with an elastic waistband.

For a coordinated outfit, sew the Versailles Bag or Sloan Bag in the same fabric.

Sizing

The pattern includes grouped sizes 34/36 through 54/56. Its chart covers bust measurements of 86–132 cm, waists of 64–110 cm, and hips of 90–136 cm.

Total jumpsuit lengths range from 148 to 158 cm across the size chart. Fit the hem while wearing the intended shoes to adjust the final length.

One class covers the jumpsuit, while the second covers the gathered sash. A downloadable multisize pattern and measurement chart support the project.
