Although there are still a few weeks to go before back-to-school, now is the time to start thinking about and preparing the things they’ll need, so you can sew them calmly and enjoy the process, without rushing or feeling overwhelmed.

That’s why in today’s post, we’re reminding you about some really fun sewing tutorials for back-to-school.

1. Multi-purpose bags—large, small, with handles, without them, with a window…

Our favorites for storing snacks, daycare changes of clothes… Each one is different, and you can personalize it with your little one’s name so they don’t get mixed up.

Multi-purpose backpack with transparent window tutorial: If you’re a Lulu Ferris member, you’ll love the fabric backpack with a transparent window that you can learn to make with us. Easy and special.

2. Backpack with flap, adjustable straps, and a drawstring closure.

Backpack with flap and drawstring closure tutorial

This backpack is one of those tutorials that’s easy to make and turns out super cute. There are no complications like zippers, and both kids and adults will love it.

Keep in mind that the backpack measurements we give you are for children, but you can always adapt them for yourself.

If you’ve only recently started sewing, take the plunge—you’ll see that you can make it by following the step-by-step instructions :)

3. Children’s backpack with zipper and front pocket.

This backpack with a zipper is one of the newest tutorials in the Lulu Ferris membership, and we’re in love with it. It’s perfect for daycare and preschool.

It has a large zipper so it can be opened easily, plus a chest closure so the straps don’t slip off and stay securely in place.

For this sewing tutorial, I recommend having some experience with a sewing machine.

As you can see, we have backpacks for every taste. Don’t be afraid to experiment: change things, personalize them with appliqués and a name, or use templates from other tutorials, such as the Mickey Mouse from the short-sleeve bib, the adorable monkeys Popeye and Frida from our appliqué picture, or the little mustaches on our YouTube channel.

And most importantly, enjoy the process, the sewing, and your moment :)
