You’re probably very used to using crochet to make all kinds of garments, but this time we’re bringing you something different: ideas to inspire you about how to use creative crochet as a decorative element for your home and your most treasured objects.
Creative crochet decorating projects:
1. Covering objects: the crochet bike!
In a post some time ago, we told you about Guerrilla Crochet: a movement that turned crochet into street art in the purest graffiti style, dressing up every element of urban furniture. Just like these artists do, you can use crochet to radically change the appearance of objects you want to turn into something special.
As an example of this kind of project, we loved what Greedy for Colour did with her bicycle. In this case, she used multicolored yarn to decorate the frame, handlebars, basket… although you can extend it to all the parts of the bike that will welcome that unique touch of personality: the bell, the seat, the rack…
Seeing this bike made us think about extending this kind of decoration to other objects with a similar structure: why not use it on your child’s chair, their crib, or the headboard of your bed?
2. Miniature little figures: mini-amigurumi.
We also have a post dedicated to amigurumi where we told you about its meaning and kawaii culture in general. However, even though we thought nothing could be cuter than amigurumi, we were wrong… Mini-amigurumi are even more adorable! Not only that, they’re true works of art, handcrafted pieces capable of leaving us speechless.
With almost 30,000 followers on his Instagram account, Katsutoshi Tsunoda is one of the most talented artists in this delicate Japanese art. These mini-amigurumi are a true wonder to collect, use to decorate very special corners of your home, or give as gifts.
On the internet, you can find many free patterns for making all kinds of little animals, plants, foods, and every type of amigurumi.
3. Wall decor: crochet on your walls.
Another idea we loved, and one that inspired us with so many possibilities. Pictures, photographs, figures, and garlands are usually among the most common decorative elements for the walls of our homes. But creative crochet applied to this kind of decor will bring imagination, warmth, color, fun, and originality in abundance to your rooms.
One of the best examples we found was on the blog of Vendetta Uncinetta, and we thought it was brilliant. It’s this crochet cloud, complete with rain, which sent our imaginations soaring. Not only clouds, but also suns, moons, stars, rainbows, and all kinds of celestial elements can come to life through crochet. And that’s not all… There’s room for anything you can think of!
