You're planning one of the most important days of your life, and what you want isn't for everything to be perfect (it never is), but for everything to be special. You want everything to be personal and unique: the venue, the details, the décor, the atmosphere… You'd like it not to be just another wedding for your guests, just as it won't be for you. Does that sound like you?

You're planning one of the most important days of your life, and what you want isn't for everything to be perfect (it never is), but for everything to be special. You want everything to be personal and unique: the venue, the details, the décor, the atmosphere… You'd like it not to be just another wedding for your guests, just as it won't be for you. Does that sound like you?

Then what you're looking for are DIY wedding ideas that make a difference and create that “magical” atmosphere you'll love seeing in the photos and videos of your big day again and again for the rest of your life.

As always, we're bringing you a little bit of everything to inspire you, looking for the easiest and prettiest ideas, so you can fill your wedding with beautiful details without having to be an expert. Among the millions of DIY wedding ideas you can find online, we've selected 5 that have a lot to do with what we do at Lulú Ferris. That way, we can help you make them a reality!

Our favorite DIY wedding ideas:

1. Burlap for a rustic touch.

DIY wedding ideasAs we told you in the post “12 DIY ideas with burlap fabric”, this is a fabric with countless decorative possibilities. It also has the gift of adding a very special rustic touch, either on its own or combined with other fabrics and materials. What can you use it for? You have so many possibilities: table runners to place over tablecloths, utensil sleeves, covering candles, making flowers… And one idea we love is the one you can see in the photograph: decorating the guests' chairs! Here, too, you can choose from many different ways to do it: with a simple knot or bow, adding flowers or other decorations, writing the guests' names, sewing on chalkboard fabric to write whatever you like…

You can find the burlap here.

2. Decorative embroidery hoops.

DIY wedding ideasA trend that has become very popular and is perfect for contributing to the creation of highly personal settings, both indoors and outdoors. You can make them purely decorative, leave messages in them, or turn them into interactive boards for your guests. Among the examples in the photograph, if you look at the hoop we prepared to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, you'll see that clothespins offer plenty of possibilities for you or your guests to leave messages, photos, mementos… You can make them embroidered, with buttons, with tulle or lace, with burlap, or with your favorite fabrics. Whatever you like best!

If you want specific ideas with hoops, don't miss the post “DIY ideas with wooden embroidery hoops”. You're going to love them!

Don't know where to buy them? Don't worry, we have embroidery hoops in the shop.

3. Garlands.

DIY wedding ideasThey couldn't be missing! Garlands are the perfect companions for any celebration, and one (or several) can't be missing from your wedding: large, small, made with colorful fabrics, with messages of love, with the couple's names, in different shapes and colors, with bows, with flowers… Use them to decorate arches, mark special areas, and even make miniature garlands to decorate the cake. You already know that we have a super tutorial for making garlands and that, if you're too busy with the preparations to make them, you can leave your custom garlands in our hands!

4. Plump hearts, stars, and letters.

DIY wedding ideasOr whatever shape you want, of course, but I'm sure we agree that hearts are the most appropriate option for an occasion like this. You can also make letters with the initials of the guests, the bridesmaids, the couple… It depends on what you want to use them for. You can join them together to create garlands, hang them in special corners, use them to tie napkins or silverware, hang them from chairs and pin a little card with each guest's name to them, use them for invitations… The possibilities, as always, are only as big as your imagination. They're very easy to make, as you can see in this tutorial for making plump hearts, and they don't require a lot of fabric.

If you're more into crochet, an alternative is to make T-shirt-yarn hearts like the one in the photograph.

5. Flower balls and Chinese lanterns.

DIY wedding ideasAnother decorative option that produces a beautiful result and has become a trend. Best of all, depending on the time and help you have available, your budget, your tastes, or your skills, you can make the balls with fresh flowers, fabric, paper… In the case of fresh flowers, the core of the ball will need to be floral foam of the kind used for flower arrangements, but if you make them from fabric or paper, you can glue them onto the typical round Chinese lanterns that you can buy almost anywhere for very little money, getting a spectacular result in return. Combine the flower balls with the lanterns and achieve results as beautiful as those in the photograph.

Remember that we also have this post where we explain 5 techniques for making fabric flowers.
