Since we’ve just launched a creative sewing video tutorial on our Youtube channel, we thought we’d put together a little collection of our videos with easy (veeeery easy) and fun decorative ideas. No more filling your home with Ikea items identical to everyone else’s: very affordable and cute, yes, but lacking the personality and uniqueness that you have in abundance.
As we’ve told you thousands of times, the magic of do it yourself is that once you know how, the variations are endless, so you don’t need to follow the decorative ideas in the tutorials to the letter. You’ll find the key techniques there, but remember that the final result should always include a generous portion of you, your personality, and what makes you unique.

Remember that decorating isn’t only about aesthetics—although it is partly about that—but also about how the kind of space we’re in affects our mood. It’s no trivial matter! Surround yourself (and those around you) with beautiful things and make your spaces cozier and full of good energy.
1. Soft, stuffed fabric cacti
And not only cacti, of course, because with this very easy tutorial you can apply the technique to any shape you like. All you need is a cheerful fabric (we chose Flurry by Daswood Studios) and stuffing for the cactus: you could use the filling from an old pillow or batting, for example.
If you make a shape other than a cactus, such as a little animal, remember to simplify the shapes as much as possible so it isn’t too difficult to sew, just as we do with our fabric elephants.

Don’t have a sewing machine? That’s no reason to go without your cactus. Try fabric glue.
2. DIY dream catchers

Dream catchers are one of those decorative objects we can make in a thousand different ways, combining different materials, and they also don’t require any specific technique. They’re even a perfect activity to do with little ones, whether at home, in a classroom, at workshops, and so on.
In this case, we’re showing you a video tutorial for making a dream catcher with yarn. We used a couple of hoops in different sizes, scissors, yarn, and our own two hands—nothing else! According to an ancient Indian tradition, dream catchers filter dreams so that only those bringing positive visions can pass through. Nightmares become trapped in the web so they won’t come true and are burned by the light of the new day. So you don’t remember the most unsettling dreams, they slip down the threads hanging from the center.
3. Bunting
We love them… and you know it. This is one of our most popular tutorials, which is exactly why it couldn’t be left out of this collection. They couldn’t be more fashionable for all kinds of events, to decorate your shop or the kids’ room—they’re essential at any party, and we can never have enough!
In this case, we show you how to make the most common type of bunting, combining two types of fabric to create a contrast that makes it shine and sewing the pennants onto a strip of bias tape.
