Back in 2015, we discovered this wonderful material and started experimenting with it. Since then, we’ve made different sewing projects with chalkboard fabric, and they all have something in common. They’re always incredibly fun!

Especially for little ones, who have a blast with colored chalk. Drawing, erasing, drawing again, and erasing again. It keeps them wonderfully entertained while helping them develop creative skills and encouraging their imagination, coordination, and artistic spirit.

Today we’re bringing you four sewing tutorials using chalkboard fabric. If you’ve never worked with it before, don’t be afraid. Although it’s thicker than regular fabric, it’s very flexible and pliable.

Let’s get started!

4 sewing projects using chalkboard fabric

Before we begin, here’s a helpful tip: to hold it in place, use fabric clips instead of pins, so it stays perfect and hole-free.

1. Roll-Up Chalkboard

Our first experiment with chalkboard fabric turned out wonderfully. A portable chalkboard that rolls up on itself and has already made lots of children and moms very happy.

It’s very easy to sew and has already received more than ten thousand views on our YouTube channel. It’s perfect for practicing sewing curves if you’re just starting out.

2. Chalkboard Notebook with a Chalk Pocket

This beauty is like the professional, evolved version of the roll-up chalkboard. It’s soft, smooth, and available in a thousand colors. It helps us save paper, so it’s also eco-friendly. Plus, it has an interior plastic pocket for carrying chalk without making a mess.

3. Reusable, Removable Garland

In general, chalkboard-fabric garlands are wonderful. On our YouTube channel, we have a tutorial for making a regular garland with fixed pennants that you can make using chalkboard fabric.

But this one from Lulu Ferris is a much more flexible version. You can add and remove pennants, making it longer or shorter depending on what you want to write or how you want to use it.

4. Hanging Decorative Chalkboard

Although this is a tutorial with Christmas motifs, you could give it any other shape you like. It’s perfect for hanging in the kitchen to make a shopping list, for example. It also works as a toy for a child’s room, or to hang in your business or workplace and write beautiful, positive phrases every day.

Let your imagination run wild!

We’d like to remind you that to see the tutorials from Lulu Ferris, you can become a member for just $10 USD per month. That means that for just over 30 cents a day, you can access the more than 150 tutorials we’ve already uploaded. Woohoo!
