What you’ll make

Sew a lined, sleeveless baby sleep sack with separate legs, long foldable cuffs, and a front zipper that runs from the crotch to the neckline.

An inner zipper guard keeps the closure away from the child, while the generous cuffs allow room for growth.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Stabilize stretch and bias-cut edges where needed.
  • Prepare the zipper for the front opening.
  • Install the zipper with its inner guard.
  • Join the exterior and lining at the neckline.
  • Bind armholes with knit binding or woven bias tape.
  • Assemble and turn the lined body.
  • Stretch and attach rib-knit leg cuffs evenly.

Fabric and notions

The sack can be sewn in woven, knit, or quilted fabric and is fully lined. An all-woven version is easier to handle than stretch fabric or a mixed woven-and-knit combination.

Use rib knit for the leg cuffs and knit binding or woven bias tape for the armholes. Stabilizing tape or interfacing helps control stretching around the zipper and other vulnerable edges.

Make it your own

Mix woven, knit, or quilted fabrics between the exterior and lining. Stabilize the stretch layer when the two fabrics behave differently.

Other sleep-sack shapes include the zippered swaddle sleep sack and the legless baby sleep sack.

Sizing

The pattern includes 6–12 months, 1–2 years, 2–3 years, and 3–4 years, covering heights of 68–102 cm and chest measurements of 48–60 cm.

The pattern provides the appropriate zipper length for each size and notes how to prepare continuous zipper tape.

The class includes A4 and A0 patterns plus the measurement and pattern-information file.
