What you’ll make

Sew an organizer that attaches to a car sun visor with elastic straps. Its compartments keep small essentials visible and sorted, and the organizer can be attached without permanent installation.

One area combines a clear window with two card slots. Divided elastic holds small objects, while a snap-fastened tab secures sunglasses.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Prepare and divide a card pocket into two slots.
  • Sew clear plastic without it sticking to the machine.
  • Bind the clear window with bias tape.
  • Shape and turn the sunglasses tab.
  • Divide elastic into custom-sized loops.
  • Add batting or medium-to-heavy interfacing.
  • Attach the rear elastic straps and finish the organizer.

Fabric and materials

Use woven fabrics such as poplin or lightweight canvas. The project also combines clear plastic, elastic, bias tape, a snap, and either batting or medium-to-heavy interfacing.

Lightweight interfacing is recommended behind the card pocket and sunglasses tab when they are made from poplin. Canvas versions may not need that extra support.

Make it your own

Divide the front elastic into narrow or wide loops based on what you plan to carry. The class demonstrates varying the spacing instead of using one fixed arrangement.

You can gently round the outer corners to better fit a curved visor. Choose batting for a softer result or fusible interfacing for firmer structure.

Finished size

The finished organizer measures approximately 30 cm wide by 14 cm high.
