What you’ll make
Make a fabric dog harness with a buckle closure and adjustable straps around the neck and chest.
The shaped body supports the webbing. Sliders refine the fit, and a back strap carries the ring used for the leash connection.
Try the Adjustable Dog Collar or Dog Waste Bag Dispenser next.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize lightweight fabric and prepare materials that may fray or distort.
- Sew and turn the shaped body, then trim or notch its curves.
- Topstitch the body while closing the turning opening.
- Thread webbing through sliders, a buckle and a ring.
- Transfer the strap positions from the pattern.
- Reinforce strap attachments with square-and-cross stitching.
Fabric and supplies
Suitable fabrics include poplin, canvas and softshell. Add interfacing to one layer of poplin or another lightweight fabric to give the body more structure.
The project also uses webbing or grosgrain ribbon, strap adjusters, a buckle and a ring. Supply details are provided with the pattern.
Make it your own
- Choose contrasting or coordinated fabric and webbing.
- Replace the small fabric bridges with suitable webbing.
- Add a securing stitch near the ring to hold it in position.
Pattern sizing
The pattern provides sizes XS through L. Use its measurement chart to select the closest size, then refine the fit with the neck and chest adjusters.
The video class is accompanied by a downloadable multi-size pattern.
