What you’ll make
The Easton is a pair of mid-rise women’s pants with a comfortable shape that narrows toward the hem rather than falling in a straight line.
Back darts shape the waist and seat. Side pockets, buttoned flaps, a fitted waistband, and an invisible side zipper complete the design.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize the upper curves and sew balanced back darts.
- Interface and assemble the shaped waistband.
- Construct side pockets with buttoned flaps.
- Insert an invisible zipper beside the pocket.
- Match the waistband across the zipper.
- Reinforce and topstitch the inseam with a twin needle.
- Finish the hems after checking the length.
Fabric choices
The class compares a lightweight polyester with more drape and a heavier twill that creates a firmer, more structured silhouette.
Interfacing supports the waistband. Stay tape or staystitching prevents the curved upper edges from stretching during construction.
Make it your own
For a simpler version, omit the pockets and flaps. You can also keep the pockets but replace the invisible zipper with a regular visible side zipper.
Turn the hem inward or make an outward cuff secured at the side seams.
