What you’ll make

The Lucía is a front-opening skirt with denim-inspired details and extra give at the back waist.

It includes curved front pockets with a watch pocket, back patch pockets, a back yoke, belt loops, and a shaped waistband.

Elastic in the back waistband adds comfort while preserving the clean look of the front.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Sew back patch pockets and join the back yoke.
  • Build lined front pockets with facings and a watch pocket.
  • Assemble the front opening for snaps or buttonholes.
  • Create parallel topstitching with a twin needle or separate rows.
  • Manage bulky denim intersections and finish the seams.
  • Add elastic and attach the finished waistband.
  • Make and position the belt loops.

Fabric choices

The sample is denim, but corduroy, fine-wale corduroy, twill, and similar woven fabrics are also suitable.

Use a lightweight fabric for the pocket linings.

For denim, the class discusses jeans needles, heavier topstitching thread, a twin jeans needle, and techniques for thick seams.

Make it your own

Choose metal snaps for the demonstrated finish, or sew buttonholes and use denim buttons or other suitable buttons.

Add decorative stitching to the back pockets, vary the topstitching, or leave a back opening.

Adjust the length on the pattern before cutting the fabric.

Pair it with the Córdoba Blouse to emphasize the waist.

Try the oversized turtleneck sweater for a more relaxed look.

Pattern sizing

The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. It is drafted for waist measurements of 64–110 cm and hip measurements of 90–136 cm.

Finished length ranges from 73 cm in size 34/36 to 78 cm in size 54/56.

The class includes the graded pattern in A4 and A0 formats, plus an information file with measurements and fabric guidance.
