What you’ll make
The Miranda is a lined pencil case with two separate zippered compartments, keeping pens, pencils, markers, and other small items divided.
Exterior Velcro lets the case stand closed on a desk or unfold into a long, open organizer with a neatly finished interior.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Prepare the exterior, lining, and interfacing.
- Position decorative trim and sew Velcro securely.
- Insert two zippers with a zipper foot.
- Topstitch the lining away from the zipper teeth.
- Shape the boxed corners and center divider.
- Turn the case and close the lining opening neatly.
Fabric and supplies
The pattern uses exterior fabric, lining, and lightweight interfacing. You will also need zippers and Velcro for the compartments and closure.
Use nylon zippers if they need trimming. Ribbon, lace, cord, or another narrow trim can be added before assembling the case.
Make it your own
Add coordinating trim to the zipper pulls, include a decorative bead, or leave the exterior plain. For a makeup pouch, coat the lining for an easier-to-clean finish.
