What you’ll make

Sew a soft wrap top for a baby’s first months. The overlapping fronts open wide and fasten with inner and outer side snaps, so the top does not need to pass over the baby’s head.

Complete the set with the knotted baby hat.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Cut mirrored wrap fronts and snap reinforcements.
  • Sew fine knit fabric with a ballpoint needle.
  • Set the small sleeves without stretching the armholes.
  • Bind the wrap fronts and neckline continuously.
  • Handle the binding around tight curves.
  • Reinforce and position the side snaps.

Choosing your fabric

Choose a soft knit suitable for a baby’s skin. A fleece-backed knit is another option for colder weather.

Make it your own

Finish the sleeve hems with the demonstrated single needle or use a twin needle. Small snaps suit the project, and metal snaps are another supported option.

Sizing

The pattern includes preemie, newborn, 0–1 month, 1–3 months, 3–6 months, and 6–9 months sizes.

If downloadable patterns are new to you, review how to use a PDF sewing pattern before cutting.

The class demonstrates the continuous binding, small sleeve construction, reinforced tabs, and inner and outer snap closures.
