What you’ll make

Sew the Nico Baby Overalls with shoulder straps, small front pleats, elasticized leg openings, and an optional front patch pocket.

The snap-fastened inseam opens fully for diaper changes. The straps can also close with snaps or with buttons and buttonholes.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Transfer notches and form the front pleats.
  • Sew, turn, and reinforce the straps.
  • Attach the front and back facings.
  • Shape and apply an optional curved pocket.
  • Create elasticized leg openings.
  • Finish the inseam and install snaps.

Fabric options

The sample uses French terry, and sweatshirt knits are another option. Choose a ballpoint, jersey, or stretch needle suited to your knit.

A woven fabric can also work. For this version, cut the inseam bands on the bias or make them from rib knit.

Make it your own

Add one pocket, two pockets, or none. Use one or two snap positions on the straps for adjustment, or replace the snaps with buttons and buttonholes.

For another warm-weather design, see the Leo Baby Romper.

The Teddy Baby Romper also features an opening inseam.

Pattern sizes

The included pattern ranges from 0/3 months through 24/36 months.

The video class includes the downloadable Nico Baby Overalls PDF pattern.
