What you’ll make
Sew a soft piglet lovey with a lightly stuffed head, dimensional ears, an appliquéd snout, a pointed tail, and knotted fabric corners.
The sample combines several textures in one marsala color, creating subtle contrast among the face, body, ears, and tail.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Sew, turn, and press the ears and tail.
- Piece the front and back body sections.
- Apply the snout with secure stitching.
- Stabilize knit before sewing facial details.
- Sew the curved head and add light stuffing.
- Secure the head, turn the lovey, and close it.
Fabric and texture
The sample combines waffle fabric, muslin, and jersey, using different pairings for the body, face, ears, snout, and tail.
Use one fabric throughout or mix textures. The class covers fraying muslin and reinforces the seams where the ears and head are attached.
Make it your own
Use straight stitching for a softly frayed appliqué edge, or add fusible web and zigzag stitching for a more enclosed finish.
Machine-stitch, embroider, or draw the facial details with a fabric marker. Practice embroidery in the beginner embroidery class.
Close the turning opening by machine or use a hand-sewn ladder stitch for a less visible finish.
