What you’ll make

Sew a compact, book-style wallet with accordion card compartments and space for bills. Its pocket-friendly format organizes cards, receipts, photos, and small papers without the bulk of a large wallet.

The featured wallet closes with a fabric-covered elastic band and combines contrasting fabrics with optional lace and kraft-tex decoration.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Transfer and press folds for accordion card pockets.
  • Stabilize selected pieces without adding excess bulk.
  • Cover an elastic band with fabric.
  • Assemble nested outer and lining sections.
  • Manage thick intersections with careful pressing.
  • Close the turning opening by hand or machine.

Fabric and structure

The demonstrated wallet uses contrasting outer and lining fabrics, fusible interfacing, elastic, lace trim, and a small kraft-tex label.

If you do not have a walking foot, omit the interfacing from the accordion section to reduce bulk. That interfacing is optional even when a walking foot is available.

Make it your own

Replace the elastic with a snap, button, or hook-and-loop tape, or leave the wallet open like a book. Avoid magnetic closures near payment cards.

Personalize the kraft-tex label, change the trim, or choose fabrics to suit the recipient. Explore another kraft-tex project in the Florence maxi bag tutorial.

You can also find kraft-tex ideas in the flat fanny pack tutorial and kraft-tex glasses case tutorial.

The complete class includes a downloadable wallet pattern with assembly marks and cutting information for the main pieces, accordion sections, and covered elastic closure.
