What you’ll make
Sew the Wilson, a sporty hooded jacket with a separating front zipper, two zippered hand pockets, and knit cuffs. Its generously sized hood provides additional coverage.
Softshell gives the jacket shown more structure, while French terry creates a sweatshirt feel. Choose regular cuffs or the demonstrated thumbhole cuffs.
For drawstring details, see the women’s and kids’ raincoat or Zola sweatshirt.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Finish raw edges when the chosen fabric frays.
- Construct zippered pockets, with facings for thinner fabric.
- Attach sleeves and topstitch the opened seams.
- Assemble and attach the hood.
- Install a separating zipper with matched seam positions.
- Sew regular or thumbhole cuffs and attach them evenly.
Fabric and supplies
Use softshell for the jacket shown or French terry for a sweatshirt-style version. The cuffs require rib knit or another stretchy knit with suitable recovery.
You will also need a separating front zipper and pocket zippers. With stretchy knit, interfacing or stay tape along the center front helps prevent rippling beside the zipper.
Make it your own
Omit the zippered pockets for a simpler jacket, or use the supplied pocket facings with lighter fabric. Make standard cuffs or add thumb openings for more hand coverage.
Add a knit waistband for a sweatshirt finish. Eyelets and a drawstring may also be added at the hood or hem, following the related classes.
Sizing
The PDF groups the pattern into sizes 36–38, 40–42, 44–46, and 48–50.
The class breaks down the zippered pockets, matched separating zipper, hood, and thumbhole cuffs, including alternatives for different fabric weights.
