Decorative sewing: What does your home say about you?

They say homes reflect the person who lives in them. We agree: it makes perfect sense, right? Whether you're a minimalist or love surrounding yourself with beautiful objects, whether you like reading or collecting refrigerator magnets, whether you're tidy or more chaotic, whether there are kids at home, whether you pay attention to details, and so on. It all shows. And when we visit someone and see little decorative sewing projects everywhere… we know we're with one of our own!

Among all the things we make at Lulu Ferris, we also have some that can serve as inspiration for decorating your home. Some are functional, while others are purely aesthetic.

Now take a walk around your home and look at every room with a critical eye: is any of these items missing?

Easy, beautiful decorative sewing ideas

decorative sewing origami boats

1. Origami boats

This summer we've gone crazy for nautical style and, of course, we were missing some little boats! So we got to work creating some with our sewing machines. If you're one of those detail-oriented people who feels good filling your home with beautiful things, you'll love them. You can make them with string for hanging or leave it off, place them on a shelf, or hang them as a personalized detail from door handles, for example…

What do you think of them as a toy for little ones or as a special gift for that person who has everything?

If you need a little help, you'll find the origami boat tutorial at Lulu Ferris.

decorative sewing cloud curtain

2. Decorative curtain with lights

We love this glowing cloud that turns nighttime into something warm and very special. This curtain is a decorative element that also becomes functional by serving as a soft light source. Playing with lights at home is a wonderful way to create an atmosphere and feel relaxed and peaceful.

Use it as a curtain, hang it from the bedroom ceiling like a mobile, clip photographs to the cords… Where do you imagine putting it?

You can learn to make the decorative curtain with lights in this tutorial at Lulu Ferris.

decorative sewing beanbag

3. Beanbag filled with polystyrene foam

Another example of functional decoration. We made a mini version for little ones, but you can make it larger if you want to adapt it to an adult size. Create a chill-out area and turn it into your favorite corner of the house. We've also found that this beanbag is magical and has a mysterious power of attraction over little ones, keeping them seated for much longer than is usually the case.

Washable, original, and suuuper comfortable. If you need guidance making it, you'll also find the beanbag tutorial at Lulu Ferris.
