Small discoveries can gradually change the way we work. For example, a material you didn’t know about suddenly lets you do the same task much more comfortably. Over the years, we’ve found many of these little treasures, and today we want to share some of them with you. Three very simple sewing tips to save time!
If the English words we now use for everything sometimes leave you a little confused, let us clarify that the famous tips are tricks, advice, suggestions… If you’re a member of Lulu Ferris and regularly watch our tutorials, you probably already know them all.

Easy sewing tips to save time1. Tip #1: Water-soluble glue instead of pins
Water-soluble glue is one of those things you can live without… until you discover it! It’s incredible how something so small can make our lives so much easier. It’s a glue that leaves no residue or stains, disappears completely with water, and is used to hold fabrics together before sewing.
You know those sewing projects where you have to spend an eternity placing pins? For example, we would have gone crazy without it when making the fabric weekly organizer…
It’s very clean and easy to handle, and when you run out, you don’t need to buy another pen: just replace the refill. You can find the water-soluble glue and refills in the store.
Tip #2: Create a mini ironing station for quick pressing
Another thing that takes time and feels like a chore when you’re sewing is ironing. Sometimes you don’t have room where you sew and have to go to the kitchen or another room, get out the ironing board and iron, press a couple of tiny pieces of fabric, and then put everything away again. What a hassle!
So we created our own portable mini ironing station. First, we combined a cutting mat with a wooden board to turn it into an ironing board. If you want to make one like ours, you can watch the two-in-one cutting mat tutorial in the Club. And if you don’t want to make things complicated, we also have them available in the store.
To complete the set, we recommend getting yourself a mini iron. You’ll see how much time, convenience, and space you gain.
Tip#3: Use fusible interfacing
Single-sided or double-sided, with different weights to add structure, and even some that don’t require sewing afterward. Fusible interfacing is another one of those little marvels of human ingenuity that we no longer want to do without :)
Not only does it make the work easier, it also gives the finished product a better finish, with more structure. The only precaution to keep in mind is to place a dry cloth between the iron and the fabric when pressing. This will prevent it from sticking to the iron or the ironing surface.
