What you’ll make
Sew a lined belt bag with a zippered pocket on each face. Either side can face outward, and optional boxed corners add room for wider essentials such as sunglasses.
An adjustable webbing strap lets you wear it around the waist or across the body. The sample uses a carabiner-style clip, and the class also discusses a buckle.

What you’ll learn in this class
- Choose where your fabric needs interfacing.
- Install and topstitch a lined front zipper.
- Finish the second zippered pocket neatly.
- Control layers with temporary securing stitches.
- Insert strap tabs and turn the assembled bag.
- Thread the adjustable strap and hardware.
- Box the lower corners for added depth.
Fabric and structure
The sample combines a floral fabric with heavier denim. Lightweight fabrics can be interfaced, while canvas or another substantial fabric may not need extra support.
You will also work with lining, two zippers, webbing, a ring, an adjustable slider, and your chosen closure hardware.
Make it your own
Use coordinating fabrics to emphasize the pieced pocket, or make both faces from one fabric. Choose a slim or chunky zipper to change the look.
Test the boxed corners before trimming them so you can keep the bag flat or choose the depth that works for you.
