What you’ll make
Sew the Atlanta Sport Skort, an activewear design that combines a skirt with fitted shorts underneath for coverage and freedom of movement.
The shorts have a side pocket for a phone, card, or ball. Front and back darts shape the skirt, and a double-layer waistband finishes the high waist.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Sew stretch fabric with a suitable needle and stitch.
- Attach a side pocket to the shorts.
- Match notches across the garment sections.
- Assemble and hem the fitted shorts.
- Form the skirt’s front and back darts.
- Join the skirt, shorts, and folded waistband.
Fabric and sewing setup
Use Lycra, jersey knit, or another stretch fabric suitable for activewear. Jersey can give the skirt a firmer shape, while Lycra can create a softer drape.
Choose a stretch, super-stretch, or jersey needle to suit the fabric. Finish seams with a serger, a machine stretch stitch, or straight stitching followed by a zigzag.
Make it your own
Leave the skirt edge raw when the fabric behaves well, or hem a jersey that tends to curl. Pair the skort with the Basic Tank Top or Erika T-shirt.
For another stretch-fabric pairing, make the T-shirt version of the London Bodysuit.
Pattern sizing
The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. The chart spans a 64–110 cm waist, 90–136 cm hip, and 51–80 cm thigh circumference.
Finished skort length ranges from 41 cm to 46 cm, depending on size.
The video class includes A4 and A0 patterns and an information sheet with the size chart.
