What you’ll make
Sew the Cáceres Skirt, an A-line miniskirt with two front slits, a back zipper and a clean faced waist.
Back darts shape the skirt, while optional patch pockets let you choose a streamlined finish or extra everyday function.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize curved, angled and waist edges so the pieces retain their shape.
- Sew accurate back darts and join the mirrored back pieces.
- Construct the front slits and finish their corners neatly with the hem.
- Assemble and secure a waist facing while managing bulky fabric.
- Apply optional back patch pockets with your choice of topstitching.
- Insert and finish the back zipper cleanly.
Choosing fabric
Choose a woven fabric. Corduroy, denim, twill and coating fabric suit cooler seasons, while lighter woven fabrics make a fresher summer version.
Fabric weight affects bulk at the hem, facing and zipper. Test your machine and reduce excess layers when needed.
Make it your own
Add two back pockets, use one or leave both off. Pocket topstitching can be straight, doubled, decorative or reinforced at the upper corners.
- Pair it with the London Bodysuit.
- Give it a casual feel with the unisex sweatshirt.
- Dress it up with the Adele Shirt.
- Layer it with the turtleneck sweater.
- Try it with the Boston Sweater.
