Fall is here, so we’re back with a super-easy sewing class: we’re going to make a beautiful double-layer fringed neck warmer that will keep us cozy.

What you’ll make
Make a double-layer neck warmer with softly rounded corners, optional fringe and a metal snap closure at the back.
When worn, the fabric forms two pointed layers at the front. The closure keeps the neck warmer in place and makes it easy to put on and remove.

What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut two matching layers and shape smooth, rounded corners.
- Position fringe around curves and secure it before enclosing the trim.
- Sew the layers together without catching the loose fringe.
- Clip the curves and turn the project neatly right side out.
- Reinforce the closure areas and install metal snaps in opposite corners.
- Use snap placement to control how the two front points overlap.
Fabric and materials
Use a relatively lightweight fabric so the two layers do not become too bulky. The class sample is made from a cotton-linen fabric.
For a warmer version, combine an outer fabric with fleece. Fringe, pom-pom trim or lace can be enclosed around the edge.
You will also need fusible interfacing at the snap locations, metal snaps and standard sewing supplies.
Make it your own
Choose fringe for the sample’s bohemian look, substitute pom-pom trim or lace, or leave the edge untrimmed.
Place the snaps nearer the center for points that overlap evenly, or move them toward the side so one point sits higher than the other.
Try on the neck warmer before setting the second snap to choose a comfortable fit.
Measurements
The sample uses two matching square layers, each measuring 75 cm along the sides. Drape the fabric first if you would prefer a larger neck warmer.
