What you’ll make
The Dublin is a fully lined coat with a high collar, concealed button closure and shaped panel seams through the front and back.
Details include a forward shoulder seam, two-piece sleeves, in-seam pockets and an optional self-fabric belt with belt loops.
The placket conceals the main buttons. The visible collar button can be functional or added purely as a decorative accent.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize curved and bias edges before assembly.
- Sew and press shaped front and back panels.
- Construct two-piece sleeves and ease them into the armholes.
- Add in-seam pockets to the outer coat.
- Join the lining to the coat and sleeve hems.
- Construct the concealed placket and sew buttonholes.
- Assemble and attach the high collar over bulky layers.
Fabric and supplies
Choose a warm coating fabric for the outer coat and a lightweight lining. Test whether your machine can feed the thickest layered areas before starting.
The class uses a size 90 universal needle for the coating and suggests a size 70 or 80 needle for the lighter lining, adjusted to suit your fabrics.
A walking foot can help feed bulky layers evenly. You will also need buttons for the concealed closure and collar.
Make it your own
Wear the coat with or without the belt, add another belt loop if desired, and choose whether the collar button is functional or decorative.
Use outer fabric, lining or a combination for the pocket bags. Optional single- or twin-needle topstitching can emphasize the shaped seams and placket.

Sizes and finished length
The pattern includes grouped sizes 34/36 through 54/56. The body chart covers busts of 86–132 cm, waists of 64–110 cm and hips of 90–136 cm.
Depending on the size, the finished coat length ranges from 84 to 89 cm.
This detailed coat class breaks a substantial project into manageable stages. A4 and A0 patterns are supplied with a separate information sheet and size chart.
