What you’ll make
Sew the Oxford Laptop Sleeve, a fold-over organizer for a laptop, notebook, planner, magazines or books.
Two large sections keep bigger items apart, while smaller slots hold pens, cards, a phone and other accessories. Magnetic snaps close the folded sleeve.

What you’ll learn in this class
- Choose a non-fraying fabric with enough body for the sleeve.
- Transfer closure, fold and compartment markings from the pattern.
- Cut and position accessory openings without blocking the closure.
- Install magnetic snaps and check their alignment.
- Join and topstitch two pattern layers while keeping the edges even.
- Sew the divisions for the large sections and smaller accessory slots.
Fabric choices
Use a slightly padded or substantial fabric that does not fray, such as faux leather, softshell or thick felt.
If the fabric can be pressed safely, interfacing can add structure. Test first to confirm that your machine can sew through four layers of the chosen material.
A nonstick, roller or walking foot may help when the surface does not feed smoothly.
Make it your own
- Size and space the small compartments for the accessories you carry.
- Shape the accessory openings or make simple straight slits.
- Use snaps instead of magnetic closures.
- Add interfacing for a firmer sleeve.
- Choose contrasting topstitching to emphasize the compartments.
