Women’s Reversible Summer Sun Hat
In this sewing tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a super-easy, wide-brimmed summer hat that will keep the sun off your face. Pattern included!

What you’ll make
Sew a reversible summer sun hat with a wide brim. Two complete fabric sides let you change its appearance by turning it inside out.
The adult pattern is one size, with an approximate finished head-opening circumference of 60 cm.
Coordinate it with the Grey Overalls or Amelia Dress, or make a matching reversible baby hat.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Apply interfacing to give the hat body.
- Staystitch curves to help prevent distortion.
- Join the side and brim sections into circles.
- Match seams and notches around curved edges.
- Join both hat layers and turn them through an opening.
- Shape the brim with neat rows of topstitching.
Fabric and interfacing
The sample pairs blue canvas with lemon-print poplin, creating two distinct reversible sides.
Lightweight interfacing gives the sample some body. Choose medium-weight interfacing for a firmer, more structured result.
Make it your own
Pair a solid with a print, add decorative ribbon or vary the number of parallel topstitching rows on the brim.
You can add snaps to lift sections of the brim for a cowboy-inspired shape, or stitch them in place for a fixed finish.
