In this online sewing class, you’ll learn how to sew a unisex vest with a high collar and snaps. The pattern includes a cropped, waist-length option and a longer option that falls below the seat. It’s very easy to make, and the pattern is included in sizes 34 through 56!

What you’ll make
The Oviedo is an easy unisex vest with a high collar, overlapping front plackets, snap fasteners, and cleanly faced armholes.
The pattern includes a waist-length version and a longer version that falls below the seat. Either hem can hang straight or gather with elastic for a blouson shape.
The sleeveless cut makes a useful warm layer over T-shirts, bodysuits, and sweatshirts.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Join the upper front and back at the shoulders.
- Align and attach the folded high collar.
- Construct the overlapping front plackets.
- Apply armhole facings for a clean finish.
- Choose a straight or elasticized hem.
- Install plastic or metal snaps.
Fabric and materials
Choose a warm fabric such as French terry, lightly quilted knit, fleece, plush, or sherpa.
Thicker fabrics may benefit from a seam-leveling tool to help the presser foot move across bulky areas.
Make it your own
Choose the cropped or long pattern line, then decide whether the lower edge should hang straight or gather with elastic.
The plackets can overlap in either direction. The class notes the traditional conventions for women’s and men’s garments, but the construction works either way.

The unisex pattern covers paired sizes 34/36 through 54/56. The chart spans chests of 82–130 cm, waists of 66–114 cm, and hips of 78–126 cm.
The long version’s listed total length ranges from 89 cm in size 34/36 to 96.5 cm in size 54/56. Compare your measurements with the chart before choosing a size.
