What you’ll make

Create a structured backpack for padel gear, other sports, or everyday use. It measures approximately 49 cm high, 32 cm at its widest point, and 18 cm deep.

Two main zippered areas and an internal divider organize larger items. A rear zippered pocket holds smaller essentials, while the padded back and shoulder straps add comfort.

What you’ll learn in this class

Label and organize similar pieces for a multi-part bag.
Pad, turn, topstitch, and quilt the straps and body panels.
Attach webbing, strap adjusters, and a hanging loop.
Install the pocket and main zippers with a zipper foot.
Build the divider and align curved panels with pattern notches.
Manage layers of exterior fabric, lining, padding, and binding.
Finish curved interior seams with bias binding or overcasting.

Fabric and structure

The sample uses waterproof canvas outside, although regular canvas also works. Use a lighter fabric such as poplin for the lining and divider.

Padding and stabilizer add structure to the straps and panels. If the fabrics fray, overcast the pieces before assembly and check that your machine can feed the thicker layered areas.

Make it your own

Use one or two zipper pulls for the main opening, create your own quilting design, or substitute a shoulder-strap shape from another backpack you prefer.

The completed backpack measures approximately 49 cm high, 32 cm across at its widest point, and 18 cm deep.

The class includes pattern files in A4 format for home printing and A0 format for copy-shop printing, plus a separate information and cover-sheet file.
