We love coin purses, and we have different styles and sizes to suit our needs. This is one of the most complete designs we’ve made because it has everything: a zipper, interior card slots, and space for receipts.

What you’ll make
Sew a structured Portia coin purse with a main zipper, interior card slots, room for coins, bills, and receipts, and a folding flap secured with a snap.
The zipper secures the main compartment, while the shaped sides and outer flap create an organized, compact design.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Prepare and topstitch the interior card slots.
- Position the slots using the pattern markings.
- Layer the exterior, lining, and zipper.
- Topstitch beside the zipper to prevent catching.
- Shape the purse after installing the zipper.
- Form the folding sides and install the snap.
Fabric and materials
The sample uses canvas for structure. Regular cotton also works; add interfacing to the exterior when the chosen fabric is light or thin.
A walking foot can help with thick folded areas. The project also requires a zipper and either a snap or hook-and-loop closure.
Make it your own
