Some tutorials are absolutely essential: you can’t go through life without a wallet! Your money needs to be kept safe so it doesn’t get lost, just like important documents: national ID cards, health cards, credit cards, transit passes… And since we know you’re spending a lot of money on school supplies for back-to-school season, we want to save you the extra expense of buying a new wallet.
Are you the kind of person who keeps everything in the same coin purse, or do you like to carry each thing separately? Either way, you’ll find one for you among these four tutorials. Here we go!
How to make a coin purse, wallet, or card holder
Zippered coin purse
The safest option for making sure not a single coin escapes. It’s the perfect size to use on its own as a coin purse or to carry everything inside. Your cards and folded bills will fit perfectly. I like to carry everything together, for example, to save space; but I have friends who carry millions of cards, receipts, photos, and little papers, and they find it much more convenient to have a coin purse plus a card holder-wallet.

Multipurpose coin purse with handle and snap
One of Lulú Ferris’s classics. You can actually use it in lots of different ways, and in the tutorial Laura explains that she usually uses it to store pacifiers. The snap is less secure than a zipper for storing coins, but you could replace it with Velcro if you prefer.
The idea of adding a hanging handle also works for the zippered design. You can always watch both tutorials and, if you can’t decide, make a hybrid of the two. Here’s the link to the multipurpose coin purse.
How to make a wallet-card holder
Since it’s the most difficult one to sew, we’ve made it super easy to simplify it as much as possible. The result is absolutely worth it because it turns out truly beautiful. So beautiful that it makes a wonderful gift: useful, original, and personal. In this case, there’s no compartment for coins, but you can carry as many cards as you like, and it also has room for bills.

Mini card holder with transparent interior
With a little stabilizer to keep your important documents protected. Since the interior is lined with clear plastic, you can also carry photos. This design is especially interesting if you’re one of those people who almost never carries cash anymore and prefers to use a card for everything. Or if you like to keep your cards separate so the magnetic stripes, chips, and everything else don’t get damaged.
