Original Mother’s Day Gifts

I’m sure you already know that this Sunday, May 1, is Mother’s Day. How could you not? Store windows fill up with gifts designed for moms, advertising reminds us across all kinds of media, and blogs devoted to beautiful things (like this one) also try to help you find original Mother’s Day gifts. But you already know that our idea of the perfect gift is a little different from what you’ll find in all those TV commercials and colorful, perfectly arranged store windows.

In fact, we have two types of original Mother’s Day gifts in mind… and they’re both amazing gifts! Let’s see which one you like best. If you’re a mom, don’t forget that you can give them to yourself too ;)

So the first type of gift is, naturally, for you to make a personalized gift yourself. We know you need time and motivation, but if you enjoy sewing, crochet, cooking, crafts, or anything else that lets you create something, make it yourself! We’ve talked many times (in this post, for example) about how different an object is when we buy it ready-made compared with when we create it from scratch with our own hands. Different in so many ways. But above all because what you’re giving is your time, your creativity, the care you’ve put into it, and the excitement with which you planned it and brought it to life. All of that has immeasurable value.

Of course, we have lots of ideas and suggestions if sewing is your thing: take a look at the Lulu Ferris tutorials and you won’t know what to choose—you’re going to love everything! And so will she, which will make the decision difficult. A card holder-wallet, a handbag or a maxi bag, a sunglasses case, a beautiful toiletry bag, a basket with a lid for storing and organizing all kinds of things, a sweater, a skirt, a jacket, a sewing machine cover… We have so many things that you’ll take longer deciding than making it. Above all, think about what she’ll like best.

And for the second type of original Mother’s Day gift, instead of “make it yourself,” we have “give her the chance to learn how to make it.” In other words, instead of giving her the finished product you sewed yourself, why not give her a course or a subscription to the Club tutorials?
