When you start sewing, you usually don’t have any particularly special needs. It’s enough to find pretty fabrics that let you create simple projects: cotton, knit, canvas… But as you improve and take on more creative and advanced projects, the time comes to look for some special fabrics for sewing and crafts.
At least, that’s what happens to us. And so, little by little, the shop fills up with new materials that expand our world of possibilities. Thanks to them, we make truly original, different, and very useful things.
Whenever we bring a new one into the shop, we usually write a post to introduce it to you. We tell you about its characteristics, uses, benefits, how to use it, ideas for working with it… But in case you’re feeling a little lost, today we’re giving you a short summary of these special fabrics for sewing. It’s time to take on new challenges!

Special fabrics for sewing and crafts
1. Kraft-tex
Kraft-tex is a truly special material. Although it isn’t very well known in Spain, people in other countries make incredible things with it. Originally from Germany, it falls somewhere between leather, fabric, and craft paper. Yes, you read that right! It may sound very strange when put that way, but we assure you it’s a fantastic ally. We use it as a substitute for leather in bags, wallets, cases, and all kinds of objects.

2. Decovil
When we first brought Decovil into the shop, we had big ideas for it. We were looking for a semi-rigid, durable interfacing that would let us give projects structure. For example, to make baskets, toiletry bags, handbags, wallets, cases… And the truth is that we’re very happy with the result. Like Kraft-tex, it isn’t very well known, but once you discover it, you’ll want to make thousands of things with it.

3. Plastics for sewing
We’ve also been adding different types of plastic that serve different purposes. Each one has special characteristics that make it different.
For one thing, there’s the thin translucent plastic. This is a very special, eco-friendly material that’s safe for contact with food. That’s why we used it to make these school sandwich pouches. The transparent plastic is the most “normal,” so to speak. It’s simply a sheet of plastic that you can use to make all kinds of things, such as toiletry bags, handbags, or fun little windows in kids’ backpacks so you can see what’s inside.
