2016 was the year of Lulu Ferris: a new tutorial every week, always searching for imaginative, useful, and beautiful ideas. Some were simpler, others more complicated, so you could keep growing and learning. We’re very fond of all of them, truly, but if we had to say which were the best sewing tutorials of this great year we’re leaving behind, we’d choose these 5.

We’d also love to know which ones were your favorites and whether or not they’re on this little list. And if you didn’t get around to one of them, 2017 is the perfect year to take it on! Or to finally join Lulu Ferris and spend more time doing what you love.

special fabrics for sewing cases1. Laptop case: briefcase and crossbody bag

Sometimes the sewing project you have in your head is even more beautiful when it becomes reality. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does, the feeling is wonderful.

That’s what happened with the laptop case. It turned out so well that we couldn’t stop looking at it! It certainly isn’t one of the easiest tutorials in Lulu Ferris, but without a doubt, it’s one of the best.

If you skipped it in 2016, your laptop case is still waiting for you.

the best tutorials of 2016 backpack2. Multi-purpose backpack with a clear window

Unlike the previous one, this tutorial really is one of the easy ones. And, of course, it’s beautiful too. By adding a small touch of originality to the typical fabric backpack, we created a different and fun version.

This backpack is one of those basics that works for everything. It’s also great for little ones, but for us too. It all depends on the fabric you use and the details you add.

Visit the fabric backpack tutorial and see for yourself how easy it is.

the best sewing tutorials of 2016 scarf3. Triangular scarf with a closure

Another magical tutorial: incredibly easy to make and with a professional-looking result. This scarf is one of the most comfortable things you could have worn around your neck in your entire life, and we’re not exaggerating even a little. Very soft, incredibly warm, and very classy.

Depending on the type and color of fabric you use, you can create scarves for the whole family. For boys and girls, and for men too, of course.

Here’s the link to the triangular scarf tutorial to inspire you to give it a try.

the best sewing tutorials of 2016 baby4. Stroller liner

Of all the baby tutorials we made in 2016, it was very difficult to choose just one. The BabyBjörn bouncer cover had turned out so beautifully that, right up until the last moment, it was almost included in the ranking. But in the end, we chose the stroller liner for practical reasons.

In other words, not all of you will have a BabyBjörn bouncer, but one thing’s certain: you’ll have a stroller. And this world-map stroller liner, besides being gorgeous, is so simple… that in the end we had to choose it. And reversible!

5. What tutorial do you think should be here?

Okay, we admit it—we couldn’t decide! There are so many we love: the harem pants, the bohemian flap bag, the travel document holder, the drop-crotch pants for babies, the card-holder wallet, the removable garland, the kraft-tex sunglasses case

It’s impossible to choose just five!

Will you help us complete the list of the best sewing tutorials of 2016? :)
