Trends in prints and fabrics come and go, and something you thought would never be fashionable again suddenly—BAM!—is everywhere in store windows. Today we’re sharing some fabrics and prints you’ll be seeing a lot of this coming winter, along with some sewing ideas for using them.
Plaid
Yes, yes, the most classic of the classics is back. Tartan, Prince of Wales check, houndstooth, and so on. Here are some of the tutorials we recommend for these kinds of prints:
We made this tutorial with a super-pretty houndstooth fabric, but it could also look amazing with a tweed-style plaid.
The button-and-pocket skirt, for women, or the girls’ version—either one is perfect for making yourself a little skirt for this winter. It looks great with tights or leggings and ankle boots!
Corduroy
Aiiiiii…we love this comeback so much. Although some people may think corduroy is a little old-fashioned and boring, you only have to look at the range of weights and prints available to realize that corduroy is anything but boring.

Floral print
It looks like flowers aren’t just for summer this year—we’re going to see them throughout the winter too. And honestly, we think that’s great, because who doesn’t love a beautiful floral print?
You could make yourself a long-sleeved dress, such as the flared dress or the dress with a waist seam. We love the new Art Gallery Fabrics collection that Zález received last week. Could it be any prettier?
Animal print
This is another print we’ll be seeing everywhere this winter—in leopard, python, zebra… It’s super bold and ideal for a blouse or accessory. Do you like it but have no idea what to do with it? Well, here are a couple of ideas:
The wrap blouse, which we have on Lulu Ferris, could be a great option. Try a fabric such as viscose with a leopard print.
If a whole blouse feels like too much, you can also use these kinds of prints for accessories—for example, a collar or scarf, a clutch, or your little coin purse.
